How to Convert Image Formats Online — JPEG, PNG, WebP & More

🔄

Need to convert a PNG to JPEG? Or turn multiple JPEGs into WebP for your website? Our free Format Converter handles all common image formats — instantly, in your browser. Here is a complete guide.

Which Image Formats Are Supported?

The converter supports converting to and from:

  • JPEG / JPG — standard photo format
  • PNG — lossless, supports transparency
  • WebP — modern web format, smaller files
  • GIF — basic animation support
  • BMP — uncompressed bitmap
  • ICO — browser favicon format

Step 1: Upload Your Images

Visit pixelforge.com/image-format-converter and upload your files:

  • Drag and drop one or multiple images onto the upload zone
  • Or click "Choose Files" to select from your computer

You can upload multiple files at once for batch conversion.

Step 2: Select Your Target Format

Click the format you want to convert to from the format grid. The selected format is highlighted in orange. Options:

Convert to JPEG

Best when you need the smallest possible file size and the image does not need transparency. Ideal for photographs and web images. Note: any transparency in the original will be filled with white.

Convert to PNG

Best when you need lossless quality or transparency support. Good for screenshots, logos, and graphics with sharp edges and text.

Convert to WebP

The best choice for websites in 2026. WebP images are 25–34% smaller than JPEG at the same quality, and also support transparency like PNG. All modern browsers support WebP.

Convert to GIF

Limited to 256 colours — best for simple graphics. Use for basic animated images. For photos, JPEG or WebP will always produce better results.

Convert to BMP

Uncompressed format — very large files. Only use when a specific application requires BMP format.

Convert to ICO

Perfect for creating browser favicons. The converter outputs a 32×32 or 64×64 icon. For best results, start with a square image.

Step 3: Click "Convert All"

Click the "Convert All" button. All uploaded files are converted simultaneously in your browser.

Step 4: Download Your Files

Each converted file appears in the results list showing:

  • Original format and file size
  • New format and converted file size
  • A "Download" button for each file

Click "Download" next to each file to save it. Filenames are automatically updated with the new extension.

Common Conversion Use Cases

  • PNG → JPEG: Reduce file size for images that do not need transparency
  • JPEG → WebP: Optimise existing website images for faster loading
  • PNG → WebP: Keep transparency while reducing file size significantly
  • Any → ICO: Create a favicon for your website from your logo
  • BMP → JPEG: Compress old uncompressed Windows images
  • JPEG → PNG: Needed when you want to add transparency or edit without quality loss

After Converting — Compress Too!

After converting to your desired format, run the result through our Image Compressor to reduce the file size even further. This two-step process (convert → compress) gives the absolute smallest files with the best quality.
